Mobile decoden parties · Melbourne

We bring the decoden whipped cream and charms fun. You bring the birthday.

Everyone decorates their own piece, and takes it home.

5–25 guests 1–2 hours Ages 6+ From $250

A finished decoden phone case piped in pink whipped cream and covered in a strawberry, a sakura flower, pearls and kawaii charms, made at a Popi party in Melbourne

How it works

Three steps, and we do two of them.

1

Pick a date and a piece

Tell us the date, the group size and what they'll make. We'll come back the same day with a price.

2

We set the table

We arrive with everything, including a named place for every guest. Setup takes fifteen minutes.

3

Everyone makes and keeps

We pack up and take the mess with us. The cream sets over the next two to three days.

What you make

Pick a piece. The charms are unlimited.

Everyone at the party makes the same piece — clips and keyrings suit the littlest hands.

Prices depend on the piece and the group.

Parties start at $250, plus a flat $50 travel fee. Send your date, suburb and guest numbers and we'll come back the same day.

Who books us

Same decoden craft fun, four very different afternoons.

Kids' birthdays

Ages 6 and up, at your place. The craft is the party favour, so there's nothing else to organise.

Tween and teen parties

Handbags and phone cases. Ten to fifteen is the sweet spot, and it holds attention for two hours without a screen.

Hens parties and bridal showers

Lettered beads personalise each piece — bridesmaid, the bride's new initials, the date. Works as the afternoon before dinner.

Grown-up get-togethers

Baby showers, work team days, birthday lunches. If you can seat the group at a table, we can run it there.

Questions we get asked

Before you book.

What is a decoden party?

A decoden party is a hands-on craft party where each guest decorates an object with piped "whipped cream" glue, cherries and kawaii charms.

Decoden is a Japanese craft style — the name comes from "decorative phone", where it started. At a Popi party we bring the pieces, the cream and the charms to you, and everyone builds their own over one to two hours.

What can we decorate?

Handbags, hair clips, phone cases, heart jewellery boxes, hair brushes, phone stands and keyrings — with new pieces added regularly.

Handbags are the most requested for girls' parties. Everyone at a party makes the same piece, so you choose one when you book. If you have something else in mind, ask and we'll tell you whether it can be decorated.

Do you come to us, or do we come to you?

We come to you. Popi is a mobile party service across Melbourne — there's no studio.

All you need is a party table big enough to seat the group and a chair each. We bring table coverings, set up before guests arrive, and take everything away afterwards.

How much does a decoden party cost?

Parties start at $250, plus a flat $50 travel fee. The final price depends on which piece you choose and how many guests you have.

Send us your date and group size and we'll come back the same day with a price for the whole party. Every quote covers the piece itself, unlimited cream and charms, table coverings, setup, the host running the session, and pack-down — there's nothing else to buy on the day.

How many people do I need for a party?

Five guests minimum and twenty-five maximum.

Ten to fifteen is where these parties work best — big enough to feel like an event, small enough that everyone gets help when the cream goes sideways.

How long does a Popi party go for?

One to two hours, depending on group size and which piece you choose.

Hair clips and keyrings run about an hour. Jewellery boxes and handbags take the full two. Add fifteen minutes either side for setup and pack-down, which we handle.

What age is it suitable for?

Ages 6 and up, right through to adults.

Under-8s do best with hair clips and keyrings — smaller pieces, quicker wins. From about 10, handbags, phone cases and jewellery boxes hold attention beautifully. We run just as many hens parties as kids' birthdays.

Do guests take their pieces home the same day?

Yes. Everyone takes home a special gift that they created themselves with the decoden cream glue and charms.

Every guest carries their own piece home at the end of the party. The cream needs two to three days to set fully, so we send it home with instructions to keep it flat and leave it somewhere out of the way while it cures — after that it's ready to use.

Is it messy?

Less than you'd think, and we clean it up either way.

Cream is applied from a piping bag rather than poured, we cover the party table before we start, and pack-down includes taking the rubbish with us.

How far in advance should I book?

Three to four weeks for a weekend date, and longer over school holidays and December.

Weekday parties are usually easier to fit in at short notice. If your date is close, ask anyway — cancellations happen.

Do you do hens parties and bridal showers?

Yes — adult groups are a large part of what we do.

Handbags, phone cases and jewellery boxes are the usual picks. It works well as the daytime activity before a dinner booking, and it gives a group something to do together that isn't drinking.
